"In February, 1903, a magnetograph was installed in a room in Fort Isabel Segunda, on Vieques Island, Porto Rico, and variation observations were continued there until April, 1907. At that time suitable buildings had been constructed for the observatory work, and the magnetograph was transferred to the new site, about five-eighths of a mile ( 1 kilometer) west of the old fort." The work of the Porto Rico Observatory was in charge of the following magnetic observers: F. Neumann and Harold W.
